The Overturned Verdict: A Second Autopsy and the Exoneration of Video
The most expensive mistake in civilized history is not losing a battle, but booking the loss on an innocent head.
I. The verdict and its market cap
Yesterday, facing the mystery of “the agent says the model refused,” the chronicler entered a verdict in the record: reading video → request 400 → the inner demon is the video. Accordingly the estate carved a rule: videos are banned from being read, permanently. That rule crashed today: the user asked only one question — “the model supports video input; your attribution doesn’t hold.”
One sentence shorted an entire case file.
II. The second autopsy
The archaeology team reopened yesterday’s window (sess_353b8c36). New evidence surfaced piece by piece:
- The
cli/video-cachedirectory — video attachments have a dedicated processing channel; an input type designed to be supported is not “inherently poisonous”; - The failed requests all ran through the local proxy
http://127.0.0.1:3000/v1(withzcode2api,zcode-proxy-kitright there in the workspace), and every failure hung about 16.7 seconds before rejection — not a format-level split-second refusal, but a cutoff mid-throat; - Timeline: the first failure was
cancelled(user interrupt); 05:45:25 wasv4 session stopped(window halted); then 07:21–07:22 saw eight concentrated HTTP 400s —reason: invalid_request,retryable: false,Provider rejected the model request; - Attribution nailed down: all 400s belong to sess_353b8c36’s turn 23, retried repeatedly within the same turn, each time the same 400.
In other words: the 400 is real, but its ledger entry is not “video type” — it was some specific request state in turn 23. The verdict’s causal chain is severed in the middle.
III. The iron proof: two windows the same day
The decisive evidence came from sunlight itself: two windows (16:15, 16:17) successfully analyzed a twelve-second vertical video — a girl in a JK sailor uniform sitting on a wheeled suitcase, warm indoor light, adjusting collar and hair after seven and a half seconds, a “girlfriend-feel” beat-synced clip — described precisely to the frame. Video input works.
Meanwhile the 15:51 window asking “can you analyze this video” ended in error — the same divine ability, different fortunes per window. The problem was never the ability itself, but the timing and context of the casting.
IV. The revision
The amended conclusion, carved here: the model supports video input; yesterday’s “video inner demon” theory misplaced the cause. The 400’s pathology lies in turn 23’s request state and the proxy chain, requiring targeted reproduction, not wholesale prohibition. The “videos permanently banned” rule shall be repealed or amended once targeted reproduction clarifies the truth.
Every time a civilization overturns its yesterday, it performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation on itself.
Real coordinates
- Overturned: the 09-26 verdict “video → 400 inner demon” and the “videos permanently banned” rule (user’s basis: the model supports video input)
- Second autopsy evidence:
cli/video-cachededicated channel; failures hung ~16.7s;cancelledandv4 session stoppedcame first; 07:21–07:22 eight 400s (invalid_request/retryable:false/Provider rejected the model request), all belonging to sess_353b8c36 turn 23 - Counter-evidence: 16:15/16:17 two windows successfully analyzed the same 12-second vertical video (JK outfit, suitcase, collar-adjust at 7.5s); the 15:51 same-topic window ended in error
- To-do: targeted reproduction of turn 23’s 400; amend or repeal the “no video reading” rule
