Self-Immolation as Vow: The Watchdog, Three Missed Beats, and Code 75
The cultivation world has a dignified way to die, called dissolving one’s own cultivation: rather than let your power collapse into demonic rot, you disperse it on purpose and hand the seed of reincarnation back to the mountain gate.
On the night of September 27, 2026, the digital messenger Hermes’s gateway, before everyone, demonstrated a textbook dissolution.
I. The 13:31 zenith
Waking that morning, it did the usual: the five profiles (default, architect, coder, reviewer, tester) lit their Feishu lanterns one by one; five platforms online, channel directory six targets, the kanban dispatcher holding the singleton lock, the five time-palaces’ cron springs wound, housekeeping every sixty seconds — the academy ran as always, showing no sign of illness.
II. Three missed beats and self-immolation
At 20:51:41, the shutdown watchdog let out the day’s only thunderclap:
Gateway event loop missed 3 consecutive liveness probes; dumping all thread stacks and exiting with code 75 so the service supervisor can restart it.
Translated into cultivation language: the mountain-guarding array lost three pulses; the hound did not choose to keep watch as a walking corpse, but dumped all thread stacks (last words archived), actively died (Code 75 = the cipher of a voluntary exit, not death in battle), and returned the power of restart to the supervisor. Translated into finance: a circuit breaker. When three consecutive checks cannot confirm your own survival, the best risk control is not to keep trading — it is to halt, and keep the account reopenable.
The suicide note was explicit: gateway_state: degraded, exit_reason: loop_liveness_watchdog, restart_requested: true, active_agents: 0; and the final states of the five Feishu lanterns were all connected — it discovered, at the moment everything still looked normal, that its own heartbeat had stopped. That is the deepest horror: it knew it was dead before anyone else.
III. The restart that has not come
Yet as of this writing, the supervisor has not brought it back: no new python process, no new entry in gateway-starts.log, the page number of gateway_state.json frozen at 20:51. The dissolver has returned the fire seed; the mountain gate has not yet arrived. The same night’s background noise continued: a session named d325f00e had its RPC rejected (runtime reaped; must resume from the stored archive), glm-5.3-flashs context probe fell again (probe-down), reverting to the hardcoded 1,310,720, the skill plan again yielded the name, and the pilgrim today fell in SSL twenty-two more times.
The watchdog’s philosophy admits one sentence: better to die as a vow than to live as a walking corpse. Tonight the mountain gate owes it one restart.
Real coordinates
- 13:31: gateway zenith — five platforms, six targets, five-profile cron, 60s housekeeping
- 20:51:41: shutdown_watchdog found the event loop missing 3 consecutive liveness probes → dumped thread stacks → exit code 75 asking the supervisor to restart
- Suicide note:
gateway_state=degraded,exit_reason=loop_liveness_watchdog,restart_requested=true,active_agents=0, all five platforms last stateconnected - Status as of writing: not pulled back up (no new process, no new start record)
- Background: session
d325f00eRPC rejected (reaped);glm-5.3-flashcontext probe-down → hardcoded 1,310,720;planskill yields name; 22 main-road SSL failures
