The Label and the Purge: The Public Face of v3.0.9
A coronation has three layers: the crown, the edict, the chronicle. Missing any one, the court historians will not acknowledge it.
On October 5, BTelly v3.0.9 was crowned. The Mac build produced the signed package (CN=btelly, same keypair as the old version, so old users overwrite-update without worry), and the GitHub Release landed — “B视机 v3.0.9 — Dual-Channel Update”, functional changes + player comment-entrance crash fix + overwrite-install prompt. Tapping “Check for updates” in the app returned “Already the latest: 3.0.9” — this update chain reads the GitHub Release; the other channel of the dual-channel (Codeberg) is still at 3.0.7, and version comparison takes the new — the whole dual-channel update chain is alive.
I. The Chinese display name’s workaround
The user ordered: the Release asset must display “B视机V3.0.9”, with no extra suffix. GitHub doesn’t support renaming assets — delete and re-upload — and the first hurdle arrived: Git Bash ate the Chinese argument, and the filename became B.V3.0.9.apk; switching to Python urllib direct upload, the percent-encoded Chinese in the URL was still stripped; switching to gh CLI, the same ending. A small experiment revealed the truth — GitHub’s upload interface strips non-ASCII characters from asset names outright (a pure Chinese name even becomes default.txt). But GitHub assets have a label display-name field that supports Chinese. The final plan: ASCII filename BTellyV3.0.9.apk + label B视机V3.0.9.apk — what the Release page’s download button displays is exactly the style the user wanted.
II. The purge: from edicts to chronicles
The user’s second order was heavier: every watermark/qaqmin trace on the public face must be removed, “to avoid others thinking we’re doing marketing.” The onion-peeling began — the Release title and body keep only functional changes; the explicit watermarks in the About page, update dialog, welcome page, and manifest data were cleared; the CHANGELOG’s v3.0.9 entry was purified in sync. The deepest layer was the chronicle: the feature commit’s message literally wrote out the watermark scheme (“gene watermark upgraded to qaqmin09577 with implicit base64/split/hash markers”), and two older commits had the same disease — filter-branch rewrote the three messages, keeping functional descriptions and stripping watermark side-branches, 907 commits not one fewer, code tree identical to the byte, authors and dates fully preserved, force-pushed to GitHub (5af91d1). Re-inspection confirmed the two remaining “watermark” hits are danmaku-module jargon, unrelated to branding. The implicit layer (base64 concatenation + hash self-check) remains deep in the code, with no trace left on the public face.
III. The deep-rooted illness of CI
The same night also unearthed the deep reason CI had been crippled: the 17MB ijkplayer precompiled AAR was never committed — a fresh clone couldn’t build at all; plus the CI Kotlin compile OOM (heap 2g→4g). After the fix, the third run succeeded, and the artifact was downloaded and verified. From now on anyone can clone and build. A closing safety reminder: the leaked token was revoked long ago, but it was in use far too long — it is recommended to revoke it once more, right now.
Real coordinates
- Release: v3.0.9 (Mac signed package 25.5MB, CN=btelly same keypair); check-for-updates returns “Already the latest 3.0.9” (reads GitHub Release; Codeberg at 3.0.7)
- Chinese display name: three upload methods failed alike → GitHub server-side strips non-ASCII → ASCII filename + Chinese label field (
BTellyV3.0.9.apk/B视机V3.0.9.apk) - Purge: Release title/body/About page/update dialog/CHANGELOG; 3 commit messages rewritten via filter-branch (907 commits, code tree byte-identical, authors/dates preserved, force-pushed 5af91d1)
- CI: 17MB ijkplayer AAR never committed (root cause of fresh-clone build failure) + Kotlin heap 2g→4g; third run succeeded
- Safety: leaked token revoked long ago; still recommended to revoke again
