The Three-Script Night Patrol: A Screenshot Inspection and One System Mute
Not every expedition claims new territory. At 2:14 AM, the lightest errand boarded: see whether those three novel scripts are still running normally, then mute the computer.
I. Claiming them: three windows, one book each
First check the working directory and system processes — several python.exe running; which are the novel scripts? The _card_pids.json in the working directory gave the clue. Then Computer Use lists the windows, and the truth is interesting: the three scripts are not three processes but three windows inside one Windows Terminal process (PID 44080) — v0.7.9 (left), Novel 2 (upper right), Novel 3 (lower right). Screenshot each, confirm each:
| Script | Book | Progress |
|---|---|---|
| Desktop\ainovel-cli-v0.7.9 | “Siwen” | Writing stage, WRITER finished chapter 23, EDITOR reviewing volume 1 chapter 2, cumulative input 10.2M tokens |
| Desktop\Novel 2 | “Shenhao Starts with Pushing Over the Neighbor’s Wife” | Writing stage, writing chapter 23 (WRITER working → check_consistency → commit), cumulative input 8.9M tokens |
| Desktop\Novel 3 | “I’m a Love Idiot in Arad” | Writing stage, writing chapter 24, EDITOR reviewing volume 1 arc 2, cumulative input 9.9M tokens |
Corroborating evidence closed the loop: all three output/novel/timeline.jsonl files were still updating minutes earlier (02:02 / 02:07 / 02:10) — indeed producing continuously, not stuck. All three windows’ interfaces showed “running,” with event streams and token usage scrolling.
II. Muting: an explicit set, not a blind toggle
The manner of the small mute task mattered — not a simulated key toggle (which could flip an already-muted state into unmuted, a misoperation), but a script using the Core Audio API to set system mute directly: read the current state first, then set as needed, and re-verify after setting. The script runs from a temp directory and cleans up after. Result: previously unmuted → now muted. The three running screenshots were also saved as files for reference at any time.
III. The value of small things
In a night of nine kilobytes, such a light task is like a rest between movements. But it is precisely these that anchor the night voyage of those ninety million tokens — whether the scripts are running, whether the machine is disturbed by inadvertent sounds; these “boring” confirmations are the most routine maintenance of a long-run production line. A garden needs both a dynasty of 152,902 buildings and a 2 AM routine patrol.
Real coordinates
- Patrol: three scripts = three windows in one Windows Terminal process (PID 44080; v0.7.9 left / Novel 2 upper right / Novel 3 lower right); screenshots confirmed each running; corroboration = three output/novel/timeline.jsonl still updating at 02:02/02:07/02:10
- Book progress: “Siwen” WRITER finished ch23, EDITOR reviewing v1 ch2, cumulative 10.2M tokens; “Shenhao Starts with Pushing Over the Neighbor’s Wife” writing ch23 (working→check_consistency→commit), 8.9M tokens; “I’m a Love Idiot in Arad” writing ch24, EDITOR reviewing v1 arc 2, 9.9M tokens
- Mute: Core Audio API explicit set (read state first, then set — not a simulated key toggle), re-verified effective after setting; script ran from temp directory and cleaned up
- Artifacts: shot-ainovel-v079.png / shot-novel2.png / shot-novel3.png three running screenshots saved in the workspace for reference
